What is a terrarium?

Your terrarium is a miniature ecosystem within itself. The predominant components are plants and the soil. The major resources are water and light. All these work together to form a living, breathing little system that can sustain itself for long periods of time. If you have a good balance of plants, soil, nutrients, water and light in your terrarium you will be able to seal it up and watch it thrive for long periods of time, sometimes even years.

The ecosystem inside the terrarium is very similar to that of the real world. Water accumulates in the soil and pebbles at the bottom of the container. Light will cause this water to evaporate and along with the magic of nature, tiny droplets will form on the sides and eventually drop down into the soil. This cycle will continue as long as there is a balance of light and water. This ensures your little heaven mimics nature and stays healthy.

Sitting within the confines of cubicles all day long and breathing in stagnant stale air can and will lead to many health complications. Brighten up your space and make the air you breathe cleaner by adding natural air purifying plants. They are living, breathing air filters that absorb air-clogging toxins and pump in fresh life-giving oxygen. Scientists at NASA have been studying how plants can clean the air on space stations for years. Their results are very impressive. They found several plants that filter out common volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Certain plants are able to remove a majority of air pollutants within an impressive 24-hour period. These plants eliminate significant amounts of benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene, to name a few.

We recommend tiny open terrariums in office cubicles, placed on your work stations so that the plants are continually purifying the air you breathe in, while you keep going at your job. These plants perform the double duty of clearing up the air you breathe while keeping you upbeat.
